The Future of Romance
February 6 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
More people than ever before are single. A Pew Report estimates that by the time today’s young adults reach the age of 50, about one in four of them will have never married. Are we reaching a watershed moment with romance? Have we lost the art of seduction?
The digital age is drastically changing our dating behaviours. Instagram is the new Tinder. Ghosting is the norm. If you want attention, you post a ‘thirst trap’ or breadcrumb your crush. There’s talk of emoji sexting and VR porn, too. A Changemaker study found that the US, UK and France are having the least amount of sex. And according to eHarmony, 67% of adults crave more romance, with under-35s slowly resurrecting the art of the love letter – nearly a quarter said they’d sent one within the last year.
This event explores the future of romance, sex and dating. After going through some fascinating data and case studies, The Akin will host a discussion to debate the possible futures we face.
